Hello residents and future residents of The Reef,
As you may have noticed, Survival Advanced is once again available for purchase on Steam.
We wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on the game's development and clarify a few things so everyone knows exactly what to expect before starting their adventure.
Where does the game currently stand?
The version currently available on Steam is still based on the build released in June 2024.
However, this does not mean development has stopped. Since then, we have been working on a major overhaul of the project to prepare what we internally call Early Access #2, which was previously mentioned on our social media channels.
We want to be completely transparent with you. If you're looking for a fully polished experience and would rather avoid the issues that can come with a game still in development, we recommend waiting for the release of update 0.2.0 or the final version of the game.
At the moment, update 0.2.0 is expected to launch between August and October 2026.
First details about Update 0.2.0
Version 0.2.0 will represent the second-to-last major milestone before the final release of Survival Advanced.
This update is much more than a simple content expansion. It is the result of months of work focused on modernizing the game, improving stability, and building a stronger foundation for future development.
Multiplayer will not yet be available in this version, but a significant part of the work completed so far has been designed to prepare for its future arrival.
Here is a first look at some of the planned improvements and features:
- Migration from Unreal Engine 5.3 to Unreal Engine 5.8
- General performance optimizations
- Reduced loading times
- Full controller support
- QWERTY keyboard compatibility
- Fully customizable key bindings
- User interface overhaul
- New ambient sounds
- Reworked islands
- Improved visual effects
- DLSS support
- Ray Tracing improvements
- Rebalanced gameplay mechanics
- New resources to gather
- New craftable items
- Improved exploration
- Numerous bug fixes
- Modernized internal game systems
And as always, this list represents only part of what is currently planned.
Why has development taken so long?
This is probably the question we are asked most often.
As we started planning the future of the project, we quickly realized that continuing to build on the technical foundations of 2024 would significantly limit the game's future growth.
We therefore made the difficult decision to temporarily slow down new content production in order to rebuild a large portion of the game's foundations.
This decision allowed us to:
- Simplify and modernize the game's code
- Improve overall performance
- Reduce existing technical limitations
- Improve long-term stability
- Make future feature development easier
- Deliver a more immersive visual experience
Much of this work is invisible to players, but it is essential to ensure the long-term future of Survival Advanced and prevent development from being held back by technical debt.
We know this decision increased the waiting time, but we firmly believe it was necessary to create a better game in the long run.
What's next?
Version 0.2.0 is not the end of development, but an important step toward the final release.
Our goal remains unchanged: continue expanding The Reef, improve the survival experience, deepen exploration, and prepare the major features planned for the future of the project.
More information and showcases will be shared in the coming months to give you a better look at the progress being made.
Thank you for your support
We know the wait has been a long one, and we sincerely thank everyone who continues to follow the development of the project.
Your feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism play an important role in the evolution of Survival Advanced. The goal of Early Access has remained the same since day one: to build the best game possible with the help of its community.
Thank you for your trust, patience, and support.
We look forward to seeing you again soon in The Reef.
